I wanted a pot that was wide enough to braise meats for sauce making. This was the perfect size and width. Weighs a ton because it is quality stainless - Sitram makes great stuff. The bottom of the pan I believe has a copper core, not sure, but it certainly has some kind of thick core. I'm very happy with this purchase.
